The Social Security Administration has released the list of top baby names for girls and boys for 2014, which is pulled from birth records of the previous year in the US.
The top 3 girls names for 2014 have all retained their places in the top 10 since last year, with Emma, Olivia and Sophia in order taking the top places. Ava and Isabella swapped places from last year, with Isabella moving up to 4th. The same with Emily and Abigail, with Emily leapfrogging Abigail for 7th spot.
The new addition to the top 10 was Madison pinching 9th spot, meaning ‘son of Maud’ however Madison is usually used as a girl’s name. It is derived from the name Madison that used to be a surname.
